German electronic music duo based in Berlin, Max Loderbauer and Tom Thiel.

They first met in the Mid–Eighties at Hartmann Digital, a recording studio near Nuremberg, where Thiel was working as house-engineer. Loderbauer worked for the German Fairlight distributor in Munich. He came to the studio when Hartmann bought a Fairlight CMI series III. This was the beginning of a musical collaboration with the keyboarder Stephan Fischer, which resulted in the project Fischerman’s Friend. After the studio closed down in 1987, Fischer, Loderbauer and Thiel moved to Berlin. They had a record deal with Phonogram and released one album on Thomas Fehlmann’s label Teutonic Beats. After Fischer had left the band, Loderbauer and Thiel founded Sun Electric.

Their first release was Sundance, which appeared on the first Café del Mar compilation,
then followed the single O’Locco on the Wau! Mr. Modo label in 1990, with numerous subsequent releases on the R&S / Apollo labels throughout the following decade. In 2007 the album “Lost & Found (1998–2000)” was released on Shitkatapult. The album “Live @ Votivkirche Wien” followed in 2023 on Arjunamusic.

The band has also recorded under the name S.E. Berlin. Sun Electric toured worldwide mainly throughout the Ninetees. The group is considered pioneers in performing electronic music live on stage.
